Well, it's said it could be compared to a weeb, but I made my own definitions and examples for the two.
A weeb is someone who watches anime just because they heard about it or saw one trending, and only watched a couple. Let's sayo you heard about Dragon Ball Z or One Piece and watched those just because they're anime... That would make you a weeb. An otaku on the other hand, is someone who watches more rare anime like the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure OVA, Ghost stories, Lupin the IIIrd, Ranma 1/2, etc. and despite already completing them, still buys merchandise and brings them up in day-to-day conversation even though they're also watching other anime now. That would be just enjoying the anime because it's good and supporting the franchise.
